UIS Graduate Public Service Internship Program Update March 13th, 2020
Dear GPSIs, Supervisors and Agency contacts: I know you all have many questions about the internship program and what actions are being taken as a result of the COVID-19 issue.
- All students should continue to report to work as scheduled if operations are not restricted at their workplace. In the event of an Agency closure, students should consult and follow the direction of their supervisor and stay home if appropriate. If working from home is permitted and feasible, the student should continue the 20 hour/week schedule at home under the remote direction of their supervisor. If working from home is not feasible, then we will negotiate an appropriate solution when the Agency resumes normal operation. Agency contacts – please notify me of any Agency closures, if possible.
- The GPSI Recognition Breakfast planned for April 1st is cancelled. We may try to do a virtual presentation on April 1st or at a later date.
- The annual interview process for GPSI internship positions was scheduled for April 16, 2020 in Springfield, Illinois, but due to UIS policy regarding large gatherings during the COVID-19 situation, we are reevaluating how the First Round will be conducted to ensure the safety of our applicants and agency supervisors. We will communicate with all supervisors and applicants how we will proceed as soon as a decision has been made.
Visit the UIS COVID-19 webpage for the latest updates. FAQs for students, faculty and staff are evolving as more details are available, so check back frequently. Stay healthy and please contact me if I can provide any further direction.
