Message to Graduate Assistants and their Supervisors March 13th, 2020

Dear Graduate Assistants and Supervisors:

As you are aware, UIS has extended spring break through next week (March 16-20) so that faculty and staff can prepare for the transition to remote learning.  Assistants will not be required to work during the extended spring break.  Please note that stipends will remain the same.  GAs are expected to return to regular work schedules on campus beginning Monday, March 23.

Please note that beginning March 23, classes will be in session, though they will be offered remotely.  The campus is not closed, and classes are not cancelled.  Given that, the usual maximum hours for work will apply:  No more than 20 hours per week for international students, 27 hours per week for domestic students.  Those limits are in effect through the end of finals week (Saturday, May 9).  GA contracts run through Friday, May 15.

In the meantime, we encourage you to visit the UIS COVID-19 Homepage and the UIS COVID-19 Updates Page for tips for staying healthy, other important information, and the latest news.  Please check these websites frequently as the situation is evolving.  Assistants, should you feel ill, please do not report to work, and inform your supervisor.  (Remember that assistants receive 52 hours of sick leave per academic year).

Should you have any concerns or questions, please contact me.
