Message from the Chancellor – It’s Our 50th Year!
Dear UIS Family,
Happy Birthday! Today, we are kicking off a yearlong celebration of our 50th anniversary!
In 1970, we first opened as Sangamon State University, and 25 years later we grew to become the University of Illinois Springfield in 1995. For 50 years, we have leveraged our unconventional start, our culture of innovation and our grit and perseverance – these qualities all create momentum that propels us forward, no matter the situation or the challenge. Focused determination coupled with a spirit of collaboration advances our mission to provide a uniquely student-centered educational experience both in and out of the classroom.
A 50th anniversary steering committee began meeting last year to plan for our yearlong celebration of teaching, learning, research and service. Last year, you received a sneak peek of our 50th anniversary logo and tagline – Bold Legacy. Bright Future. Beginning this month, you’ll begin seeing these creative pieces more widely used on campus and in the community.
Today, we launched a special website, which offers a toolkit containing items you can use to brand your communications in celebration of our special year. Continue to check this website as more information is added, such as university history, alumni stories, upcoming events and more. If you have events you’d like to list on this site, send info to firstname.lastname@example.org.
And finally, we’re kicking off the festivities with a yummy treat. Stop by the table outside the Student Union (quad side) today at 11:30 a.m. The first 50 students or employees will receive an individually wrapped 50th anniversary cookie.
Let’s continue to make this year our best yet!
