  • Effective immediately, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) will no longer require candidates to have a passing writing score and a passing composite score on the same ACT or SAT score report.  Candidates may submit two score reports: one with a passing composite score and one with a passing writing score.  Rules do no specify that the scores must be on the same score report.  However, scores mixed between the two tests (example: a passing composite ACT score and a passing SAT writing score) will not be accepted.  For more information, please contact your advisor.

Basic Skills Mobile App

Pearson has launched a mobile app for educators preparing for the Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP 400). This app will include 60+ multiple choice and constructed response questions. The initial download will be free to candidates; however, the full version will cost $1.99. Download the Teacher Prep app from the App Store or Google Play.

30 day Retake Policy

The ISBE has changed the Retake Policy for all ILTS tests, such that candidates may retake any ILTS test or subtest after no less than 30 days after the previous attempt, subject to the availability of computer-based testing appointments.

If a candidate re-takes an ILTS before receiving their score report for their previous attempt, they assume full responsibility for all applicable fees for both attempts, even if they subsequently learn that they passed the test on the earlier attempt. No refunds will be made on the basis of passing performance on the earlier attempt.

Elementary Education Test

Any candidate that has completed or is currently enrolled in a K-9 program should take the Elementary/Middle Grades (110) Test. Students enrolled in the “new” (1-6) program should take the new Elementary Education (Grades 1-6) (197-200) Test.
