Seth has not yet submitted a bio. Please enjoy this temporary bio for him in the meantime while his supervisors wait for him to do what we told him to do a week ago.

Seth recently spent time in Ghana this summer, where he got in “trouble” for walking with a flashlight. Please ask him about this (and all of his wives) every time you see him. He is our SI leader for Organic Chemistry (CHE 267), enjoys long walks on the beach, was an adorable 3rd grader apparently, and LOVES Erica’s mom. HIS mom makes AMAZING baked goods that he will share with you anytime.

Hi!  My name is Cameron and I am a Writing Peer Tutor here at the Learning Hub!  I am a Junior transfer student from Parkland College in Champaign, IL.  I completed my A.A. there in English Literature, and am now working on my B.A. in Communications/History.  Writing has always been a passion of mine, and I am looking forward to helping any student develop their writing skills!

One of my favorite pass-times, is reading.  My favorite books of all time are the Harry Potter books (Go Slytherin!).  I also love the Robert Langdon books by Dan Brown, and too many other books to name here.  I will always say, never underestimate the positive effect reading can have on your writing skills!  I also enjoy traveling, movies, with horror and comedy being my favorite genres, and as nerdy as it may sound, I love school!  When I finish my B.A. at UIS, I plan to go to graduate school and get my PhD.

Dorien is our newest employee, and his bio is coming soon! He is a transfer sophomore student pursing pre-nursing at UIS before he joins the UIS nursing program. He’s so thrilled to have landed a coveted tutoring position in The Learning Hub, and super excited to work under the crazy Nicole and Sarah, esq.

Erica has not yet submitted a bio. Please enjoy this temporary bio for her in the meantime while her supervisors wait for her to do what we told her to do a week ago.

Erica is returning to The Learning Hub after a year in Mozambique serving in the Peace Corps. After the terrorists swooped in, her life was upended and she came back to the US to figure out her life. She decided that for this year she would pursue her teaching certification, as she found out she might actually like children (well, teaching them anyway). So she gracefully agreed to come back to The Hub even though we’d thought she’d ran off to join a commune (funny story, ask her sometime). We’re so happy to have her back, snuggie and all. Here’s hoping she doesn’t give herself another concussion while throwing away her trash.

Hi! My name is Evie and I am a second-year CAP Honors student and member of the Writing Peer Tutoring staff. I am currently majoring in Philosophy and Economics with a minor in Anthropology. My favorite thing about writing is finding and explaining unexpected interconnections between concepts. I believe writing is such a valuable skill because it gives everyone the ability to present the thoughts in their head in a concrete, logical, and lasting way. I look forward to helping students hone this skill during my time at the Learning Hub.

In my free time I enjoy volunteering through Leadership for Life, watching copious amounts of YouTube videos, and going on hikes!

Hi! My name is Logan Burgess Hayes and I am a writing tutor here at the learning hub. I am a senior and an international student from England on the Men’s tennis team. I am majoring in psychology with a minor in sociology. I plan to further my education in psychology with a master’s degree after I have graduated in May.  I hope to be of help with all UIS students with their writing skills but also their planning of work, time management and achieving their academic goals. Apart from school I enjoy travelling and spending time with my friends and family. I look forward to seeing you all up in the Hub.

Hi! My name is Michael. I am a graduate student pursuing my Digital Publishing studies at UIS. I previously worked as a Writing Peer Tutor during my junior and senior years as an undergraduate student. With a BA in English, I look forward to meeting with students to assist them on various writing related assignments.

Hi, my name is Sidney. I am in my second year as a graduate student in English at UIS. I love literature. One of my favorite novels is Edith Wharton’s The House of Mirth. I enjoy writing both academically and creatively. Though writing is stressful, it can also be a fulfilling and enjoyable activity. I look forward to helping all of you become the best writers you can be. In my spare time I enjoy doing yoga, making art, cooking delicious meals, and playing with my dog.

Academic/Study Skills

Hi, my name is Liliana and I am a graduate student in the Human and Development Counseling program at UIS.  I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, with a concentration in Education, from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico City (UAM-X).  For the past 10 years, I have taught English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to children, adolescents, adults, and senior citizens in Mexico City.  I am very excited for the opportunity to work at the Learning Hub because this position will allow me to put into practice my passion for teaching. I can assure you that I will do my best to help you succeed in your academic goals.
