The Italian Renaissance:

Venice, Florence, & Rome

Summer 2019 Study Abroad Course

On this study abroad course to historic Venice, Florence, and Rome, we will investigate the classical origins and history of the Italian Renaissance. We will examine the Catholic Church and its art and architecture that transformed the world in the sixteenth century. This class invites you to understand Italy’s past and its culture by exploring both historical and contemporary contexts. We will examine art history, cultural history, and religious history in order to analyze classical Roman history, the Renaissance, and how they are viewed in present times.

Students traveling abroad will fly from Chicago to Italy from May 15-28. We will stay for two weeks. During the course of our visit, we will have opportunities to listen to historical guides, give student presentations at key sites, sample the local cuisine, take day trips, and have free time to explore and experience life in Europe. This course will count for ECCE Engagement Experience or for ECCE Global Awareness and will be taught online after the trip.
