Basics of SPSS Data Management and Analysis
Learn how to use SPSS Statistics Software to enhance your research skills or expand the impact of your organization!
This four-week, non-credit workshop is designed for academic and industry researchers, or anyone interested in gaining a working knowledge of SPSS. Students will learn the basics of SPSS data management, as well as analysis techniques (descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA correlations, essentials of linear regression, etc.).
Dr. Sean McCandless, UIS Assistant Professor of Public Administration, will coach you through this 100% online and asynchronous workshop. Since this is non-credit, it is a great chance to hone your skills before taking credit courses that require using SPSS!
Through these sessions, attendees will understand:
- The basics of data management in SPSS
- The most commonly used analysis techniques in SPSS (i.e., descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, correlations, and the essentials of linear regression).

About the Workshop Instructor:
Sean McCandless, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor and Associate Director of the Doctorate in Public Administration Program at the University of Illinois Springfield. He regularly teaches research methods and the doctoral statistics course. Dr. McCandless has done extensive research on the intersections of law, public management, and politics. He has published numerous articles as well as co-authoring the book. “Achieving Social Equity: From Problems to Solutions.”
