Michael Lotspeich

As a student-athlete on the UIS cheerleading squad, Michael Lotspeich knows what it means to be loud, passionate, and involved. Determined to learn more about education policy, he examines rural education agency inequalities, their political causes and the ultimate sociological consequences on Illinois communities. He recently completed an Applied Study Term with the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C, along with the National FFA Organization in Louisville, Kentucky. He brought his knowledge back to UIS where he conducts classroom presentations as a diversity educator—talking about how sociological ideas of ‘place’ are used to shut down the conversation on “-isms” that affect educational equity and progress.

Leadership is lived at UIS. Every day.
