Brittany Carls – Leadership Lived

Brittany Carls, a senior Business Administration major, is working this summer on campus in the Chancellor’s office. Brittany was recently elected as treasurer of the Student Government Association, and she is also a member of the Capital Honors Program, serving as a mentor. Brittany is also very involved in several organizations on campus including Kids at Heart, an organization for college students to get together for positive activities. During Welcome Week they sponsored an obstacle course on the Quad to get new students together.

After graduation Brittany plans to go into nonprofit management. Currently she’s an intern for Habitat for Humanity at ReStore as a marketing resource. Donations from the community are resold at the store with profits used by Habitat to benefit the community building more houses for low income individuals. She is using her business marketing knowledge, creating ads to get the word out to the community about Habitat’s good work.

Brittany chose UIS because she visited during a preview day and thought UIS was a great campus and a great fit for her. She’s loved the experience and the people at UIS. The small class sizes are great because she came from a small high school, and at UIS her largest class has been 40 students. Brittany says that UIS has taught her a lot about leadership. When she came to UIS she had the opportunity to get involved on campus, and she learned how to become a better leader and how to work with other people. UIS has been lucky to have Brittany too.
