Career Highlights
“I have always considered my work at this organization to be collaborative. The Springfield Urban League Inc. has continued to grow and expand throughout my tenure here. I recall the inaugural year we served more than nine thousand people through direct services as a milestone. During this same year, the Springfield Urban League Guild was recognized by the National Urban League as one of the most successful volunteer auxiliaries in the nation. The mission of the Urban League to empower others to change their lives and those of their families is a commission I’ve always held dear and feel is bountiful in its own rewards.”

Memories of SSU/UIS
“I have always carried the advice and wise counsel of Professor Tim Miller with me. He took the time and effort to voluntarily guide me and this investment is unequivocally the most significant moment of my tenure at the University. Professor Miller was instrumental in my decision to pursue a master’s degree. His encouragement and support was of great benefit and reinforced my confidence in my ability and academic aptitude.”

How did UIS change or prepare you?
“The academic instruction that I received at UIS was wonderful. The environment, structure and rigor were exemplary. Moreover, as a married working professional during my matriculation, I found UIS complimentary to my pursuit of work experience simultaneously with my education. The duality of my pursuits set me apart from many of my contemporaries as I was able to garner invaluable proficiency in the workforce while endeavoring to complete my education.”

Historic Idol
“I have always been inspired and admired the life and work of Eleanor Roosevelt. Her courageous efforts towards curing the societal diseases of racial inequity, suffrage and gender inequality place her among the very greatest of American citizens.”
