Memories of SSU/UIS
“My favorite moment at UIS was meeting my husband in Introduction to Interpersonal Communication with Beth Ribarsky. I also enjoyed working as an intern for WUIS through the Applied Study Term program.”

How did UIS change or prepare you?
“I think finally landing at UIS (after floating around to several other area schools) helped me focus on finishing my undergrad degree. Because of the positive experiences I had as an undergrad, I made the decision to go back to school for my Master’s Degree. Even though my Master’s Degree will be in a different field, I believe my Communication degree prepared me to take the leap to Public Administration and to feel more confident in my career.”

Favorite TV Show
“One of my all-time favorite shows is Parks and Recreation because I identify so much with Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler. Her passion for life and her job is something I strive for on a daily basis. Working for a nonprofit can be a thankless job (much like working in government), but at the end of the day when you see your hard work helping others, you will have the biggest grin on your face and realize it is all worthwhile.”
