Career Highlights
“Since working for Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County (August 2012), we have helped 10 families out of poverty housing. Habitat for Humanity defines poverty housing as housing where the individual/family is paying more than 30% of the household income on housing expenses, causing the individual/family to not have money for food and other basic necessities, or have issues such as overcrowding and other unhealthy living conditions.”

Memories of SSU/UIS
“A significant moment for me at UIS was when I was able to take over organizing the Late Nite Stars event. I was the second person to run it and the student who was in charge before me and the advisor of the program recommended that I be the person to take it over. I felt honored to be selected. It also gave me a lot of practical skills that I have used in my career since graduation.”

How did UIS change or prepare you?
“UIS helped me become the leader that I am today. In high school I had leadership qualities, but I was shy. It’s hard to lead others when you are shy. UIS helped me break out of my shell and gave me practical experiences of being a leader from being a Student Activities Committee Coordinator to being a Resident Assistant to being a Student Organization Center employee.”

Personal Inspiration
“While at UIS, Beth Hoag was an inspiration to me. She always helped students reach their full potential and EVERYONE on campus seemed to love her. She had a job that she loved and she had fun doing it. She made me want to find a job where I had fun and helped people. I am happy to say that I reached that goal by working for Habitat. I may not have made it here without the inspiration that I got from working with Beth!”
