Career Highlights
“In 2007, I was one of 30 young leaders selected to participate in the Hopefund Project by then Illinois Senator Barack Obama. The project trained us to be leaders in state and federal campaigns for the 2008 election. After the election, I served as the Administrative Director for the IL Technology Development Account, under the Illinois State Treasurer. I was working with area venture capitalists and private equity firms to improve the startup community in the state. In my current role with Starbucks Coffee Company, I am involved in several exciting initiatives such as the Square-Starbucks partnership and providing financial guidance to the first-of-its-kind Soluble Coffee Plant in Georgia.”

Memories of SSU/UIS
“My proudest moment at UIS was when I worked with Terri Jackson to organize the UIS Student Lobby Day in 2003. Putting the event together, I had the chance to speak with other student leaders, university staff, and administrative leaders about the current challenges and concerns of the university and its students. I was able to take those messages to the Assembly to be discussed with political leaders. I felt like I was doing something to better the school.”

How did UIS change or prepare you?
“I think UIS helped me understand what a servant leader is all about. Myself, and a few other students started looking for ways to engage the student body while we were there. We did that through UIS Blue Crew, student-led leadership development programs and volunteer efforts throughout the city.”

Interesting Fact
“My favorite book is The Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein. I also enjoy hiking and weightlifting.”
