Reaching Stellar through Academic Excellence

Academic Excellence

The University of Illinois has one goal at the core of our mission: to transform lives and serve society. Academic excellence is vital to that enterprise. Through the Reaching Stellar campaign, UIS plans to raise support for academic programs, equipment, instruments and research opportunities.

The simplest way to support academics at UIS is to give to the Academic Affairs Fund for Excellence, which provides the UIS Provost Dennis R. Papini resources for enhancing the excellence of UIS academic programs.

You can also support academic excellence by making a gift to your preferred college or department or to other academic support funds.

Special Efforts

The Reaching Stellar Campaign will also take advantage of the following means for achieving an even more stellar academic experience for UIS students

  • Funding for distinguished professorships.
  • Continued technology upgrades.
  • Programs to increase recruitment and retention among students (including scholarships).

To support any of these endeavors, please contact the UIS Office of Advancement at 217.206.6058 or by email at

A Story of Academic Excellence

Dr. Leo Bin

The Investiture of Dr. Leo Bin | A Celebration of Faculty Excellence

On Wednesday, September 5, at 3:30 p.m., UIS hosted a very special event – the investiture of Dr. Leo Bin as the PNC Distinguished Professor in Banking and Finance. This named professorship honors Dr. Bin’s extraordinary teaching skills and provides financial resources for his research on financial analysis and international investment. Named professorships are crucial because they help to attract and retain excellent faculty, and as you know we pride ourselves on the influence our professors have in students’ learning, leadership and lives.

Special thanks to PNC Bank and the PNC Foundation. They have a long history of strengthening and enriching the lives of communities in which they live and work. We are both proud and grateful to have a professorship that bears their name.
