Katie Champion Williams Joins the Office of Advancement
Meet Katie Champion Williams
The UIS Office of Advancement is pleased to announce that Katie Champion Williams has joined our staff as Director of Development. Katie will focus her fundraising activities on the UIS College of Business and Management and on corporate and foundation fundraising, as well with donors and grads in the Greater Midwest.
Katie grew up in southern Indiana and moved to Springfield in 2007 to work as a fundraiser with the American Cancer Society (ACS) until coming to UIS.
Making An Impact
Fundraising has been a great career for her: “Rather than sitting behind my desk all day, I am out meeting people, learning their histories, learning their life stories, and discovering what they are passionate about.”
She wants to make an impact and help make the world a better place so is excited to be raising money for education. “When I became a mother, I came face to face with my own mortality and I have a desire to leave a legacy for my children,” she said. “Education is all about the future. Education will benefit other generations down the road.”
Katie learned a little about UIS while serving as staff liaison for the ACS with the UIS branch of Colleges Against Cancer, a registered student organization formerly on campus.
“Now that I’m here at UIS,” she said, “I’m impressed by how much leadership exposure students are given—more than at many universities. This gives students what they need to be successful outside the University.”
Outside of Work
Away from work, Katie loves spending time with her husband and their two daughters, especially on day trips together to places like St. Louis or Hannibal, Missouri. A long trip to Europe is on Katie and her husband’s long-term bucket list: “We’ll go without a return ticket and come back only when we feel like we’ve experienced everything we want to experience.”
