Funds That Support Pre-Nursing
Make a Difference for Pre-Nursing at UIS
In 2014, UIS announced a partnership with University of Illinois Chicago College of Nursing and Memorial Health System to launch BSN program at UIS. The program includes two phases, both of which can be completed in Springfield: two years of pre-nursing and general education courses at UIS and two years of professional nursing courses, which will be delivered by UIC College of Nursing faculty at UIS.
Pre-Nursing Pathway Program Fund
When you give to this fund, you provide general support for the program which helps with special experiences, supplies and opportunities for the students–all of which enriches their education and enhances the program: An excellent investment in health care for Central Illinois.
Elizabeth and Herbert Denniss Pre-Nursing Scholarship
Through their giving, Herbert and Elizabeth Denniss have demonstrated a deep commitment to education. Herbert is a retired Springfield police officer, and Elizabeth Denniss, one of Springfield’s first nurse practitioners, has multiple nursing degrees. One of these, her BSN in nursing, she earned at UIS (then Sangamon State), back when the University first offered a nursing degree. Herb and Elizabeth Denniss are pleased to support nursing at UIS, now that the University has a path toward a nursing degree. Their scholarship will support a first- or second-year UIS student preparing to enter the Springfield-based University of Illinois Chicago nursing degree.
Esther and Wilfred Lam Pre-Nursing Scholarship
Dr. Wilfred Lam has been a physician in Springfield for many years, and he also taught at SIU School of Medicine before retiring. His wife, Esther, had training as a nurse before earning two degrees at UIS as a non-traditional student: a BA in History in 1996 and an MA in Communication in 2004.
