Make a Difference for Gender and Sexuality Student Services
Gender and Sexuality Student Services provides encouragement and support to our students on issues related to gender and sexuality. We especially want to challenge intolerance and promote affirmation so that we can have an even more inclusive campus.

This past year we were able to send five students to the Midwest Bisexual Lesbian Gay Transgender Ally College Conference (MBLGTACC). Attendance at conferences such as this one can be an incredible growth experience for students, with a chance to explore challenges with other students from across the country, skill training on leadership, access to national leaders in social justice and human rights, and much more. And when students come back to UIS, they help make UIS more LGBTQA friendly. To take the five students to the conference (travel, registration, and lodging), we needed about $1,000. If you would like to support more experiences like this for LGBTQA students, please note your intention for the gift in the comment box of the online giving form.
The Lavender Graduation acknowledges achievements that LGBTQA individuals have done for their university over the academic year. Each year, following a presentation by a speaker, faculty and students receive awards for their contribution to the LGBTQA community. Students also receive lavender cords to wear at the UIS commencement ceremony.
Your gifts from $25 to $100 will help to support this event, help to purchase the cords, and possibly bring in a guest speaker from off campus. You might also consider a named award that could be given to a deserving student (you could set the criteria for this named award).
The Gender and Sexuality Student Services Resource Library has books, newspapers, magazines, films, and other educational materials that students can check out or read at the Resource Center. We welcome your contributions to this collection, either materials or money.
Members of Safe Zone agree that they will work to provide a personal space that is free from homophobia, heterosexism, and transphobia. They receive training to become better allies to students, and then hang a Safe Zone sign on their office door or living space. All students, staff, and faculty are eligible to join. Your gifts will help provide training and supplies.
We currently do not have a scholarship that targets financial support for a Gender and Sexuality Student Services student. You could be the first to create a scholarship fund for one of our students, either a current-use scholarship or and endowed scholarship. If you are interested in this giving opportunity, please contact our gift officer through the link at left or contact the Office of Advancement at 217.206.6058.
We welcome your inquiries. Please feel free to contact us.
