A Place for Diversity to Thrive

The Diversity Center Fund

From its earliest days as Sangamon State University, the University of Illinois Springfield has been a place where many different kinds of students can come, feel at home, and successfully achieve their educational dreams. Through your gifts, you can help The Diversity Center welcome students to campus, regardless of students’ race, ethnic or national origin, religion, gender, or sexual identity.

Diversity Center Programs

Black Male Initiative

This program serves the instrumental function of developing and implementing an overarching philosophy of student development and experience that captures a comprehensive vision for recruiting, retaining, and supporting historically underrepresented students of color and African American males.

Hispanic/Latinx Initiative

Programs and activities are designed to create a supportive and welcoming environment where Hispanic/Latinx students can thrive academically and socially, develop leadership skills, prepare for a successful professional career, and embrace and promote their diverse cultures while feeling at home on the UIS campus and in the Springfield community.

Necessary Steps Mentoring Program

A living-learning community for first-generation students, who are among the very first in their families to attend college.

Terri Jackson Book Award Fund

Provides emergency money for students with financial need to purchase books.
