Events are a great way for Alumni to stay current with what’s going on at UIS. Whether you’re returning to campus for Homecoming, or watching an event at Sangamon Auditorium, there are many ways to stay active with your alma mater. We encourage your involvement and hope to see or hear from you.

InstaGrad | Saturday, May 12, 2018

InstaGrad
We invited graduating students to make memories on campus during their final weekend here. They posted pictures from iconic UIS sites like the Colonnade, the Shakespeare Garden and the Lincoln Statue. Then they joined us at the Student Union on May 12 where they received their first gift as new alumni.

The 2018 UIS Alumni Gala was held on Friday, February 23 at the Student Union.  Thank you to all who attended and helped us honor our exceptional alumnae: Kathy Best who was presented with the Alumni Achievement Award, and Mary Mitchell Beaumont who was presented with the Distinguished Service Award. Lunch & Learn Series | February 27, March 29, May 2

2018 Spring Lunch & Learn Series

You’re invited to the thought-provoking, expert-led Lunch & Learn Series presented by the UIS Alumni SAGE Society this spring at UIS. These lunch-time programs will stimulate thinking as they build upon the University’s tradition of open and intelligent dialogue. All sessions will be held at the UIS Student Union. Cost is $23 per person for each session, which includes a hot lunch.  Register for the Lunch & Learn Series online or by calling 217-206-6058. Registration deadline is one week prior to each event.

February 27: Celebrating Culture and History

Elizabeth Alexander and Nell Clay, board members of the Central Illinois African American History Museum, will share the vision of the city’s newest cultural center as they present We Have a Dream: The Future of Springfield and Central Illinois African American History Museum. Dr. James Cornelius, Henry Horner Lincoln Collection, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Museum, will present Lincoln, Lost and Found: Mysteries and Wonders of Illinois’ Lincoln Collection.

March 29: Rochester and The State Capitol

Raymond and Pamela Bruzan, teachers, writers, environmentalists and community boosters from Rochester, will present Cotton, Violins, and Shots in the Night: A Timeline Visit to Rochester, Illinois. Presenting How the 6th Illinois Capitol Stayed in Springfield will be Mark Sorensen, Macon County Historian, former assistant director of the Illinois State Archives and past president of the Illinois State Historical Society.

May 2: From Prairie to Sustainable U

Tom Wood, Archivist, University of Illinois Springfield (UIS), will present on From Prairie to University, and provide a storied look back at the physical infrastructure development of the University. Dr. Megan Styles, assistant professor of environmental studies, will present on the history and social changes of the sustainability movement, sustainable development and on sustainability initiatives at UIS.
