Meet Alumnus Dewey Detmers

Dewey DetmersDewey Detmers ’11 MBA is the Director of Voice Services at Windstream Communications. He says he’s seen success in his career thanks to opportunities for his skills to shine, skills that he says UIS faculty and staff helped him identify and sharpen. Dewey and his wife completed the UIS MBA program together while working full-time, and are now parents to four children.



Alumna Teresa Haley Awarded 2019 First Citizen

Chancellor Koch and Teresa HaleyCivil rights leader Teresa Haley ’92 LAS, MA ’94 PAA, president of the Springfield branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the NAACP Illinois State Conference, was named First Citizen. The 57th annual First Citizen Award recognizes the unselfish service an individual gives to the community. Teresa has been involved with the NAACP for more than 25 years, and says she loves telling her community about where we’ve been, and is excited about telling them where we’re going.


Alumni Inducted into ILSIP Hall of Fame

David Menchetti, Kevin Schoeben, John NicolayThree alumni were inducted into the Samuel K. Gove Illinois Legislative Staff Internship Program Hall of Fame at a recent ceremony. David Menchetti, Kevin Schoeben and John Nicolay were recognized for careers that exemplify distinguished public service. Learn more about these outstanding alumni.



Senior Melissa Van Named 2019 Student Laureate

Chancellor Susan J. KochUIS senior Melissa Van has been selected as a 2019 Student Laureate of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois. Van received the Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award, which is presented each year to one outstanding graduating senior from each four-year college, university and community college in the state. Melissa says, “UIS has given me many opportunities to show what I am made of, and I want to take my leadership skills and apply them after I graduate. There is so much I want to accomplish not just for myself, but for my community.”


Clarice Ford Honored with Community Leadership Award

Dr. Clarice FordDr. Clarice Ford, UIS Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, was honored with the 2019 Community Leadership Award from The Outlet, a Springfield-based non-profit young men’s mentoring initiative. She was recognized for her senior leadership stewarding programs and services that contribute to student development and success both inside the classroom and beyond.



Students Thank Donors at Scholarship Luncheon
