2019 Alumni Humanitarian Award Recipient
Alumnus Matthew Wallace serves as Managing Director of Opportunities NOW Myanmar, an entrepreneurship development system that seeks to reduce poverty by providing business training and mentoring in various stages of business startup. He co-founded the organization after he and his wife moved to Myanmar in 2008 to work full time on poverty alleviation and job creation. Wallace was recently honored with the UI Alumni Humanitarian Award at a ceremony on campus.
First Students Graduate from New Public Policy Program
Four students comprise the first graduating class of UIS’ new public policy bachelor’s degree program. “This program was started as a way to provide students who are interested in government and politics with a more applied curriculum and to utilize our location in the state capital to allow students, who already are interested in government, a chance to start interning and working in the field,” said Magic Wade, assistant professor of political science.

Reaching Stellar Campaign
Reaching Stellar: The Campaign for the University of Illinois Springfield seeks to raise funds from friends and alumni for UIS students and our wider community. This month we honor alumna Karen Hasara, who received an honorary doctorate of humane letters during 2019 UIS Commencement. Karen envisions a stronger, more connected world in the future.
