Alumnus Dexter Burns ’14 PAA, MA ’16 LAS is a Human Resources Management Analyst at the United States International Trade Commission. Dexter says that his undergraduate career at UIS played a significant role in helping him to realize his academic and professional goals. He’s also found that his international experiences gained at UIS have made him more competitive in the job market.
Reaching Stellar: Center for Lincoln Studies
On January 19, the UIS Campus Senate passed a resolution supporting and approving the establishment of the Center for Lincoln Studies. According to James Ermatinger, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, “Through education, research, and outreach programs, the Center for Lincoln Studies will provide students, faculty, scholars, and the public with opportunities to understand Lincoln’s life and times and his continual impact on our world and society.”
UIS Perspectives: Public affairs internships lead to success
Chancellor Susan J. Koch highlights the success of public affairs internships in her monthly column appearing in The State Journal-Register. Sherrie Elzinga, Director of the Graduate Public Service Internship program, says, “It’s imperative that we prepare the next generation of competent public servants and this ‘learn-the-ropes experience’ does exactly that.”

Following nearly two and a half years of budget impasse, it is critical that our legislators hear from you about the importance of supporting higher education and the University of Illinois. Alumni, students, Illinois Connection advocates and University leaders are invited to the 2018 University of Illinois Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, February 28.
