Tim GleasonMeet Alumnus Tim Gleason

Tim Gleason ’95 CBM, MA ’07 PAA has led a life of public service in many different roles. While serving as a police officer, a city mayor told Tim he “looked at things differently,” and encouraged him to pursue his MPA. After receiving his master’s degree, he served the State of Illinois and later became the City Manager for Washington, IL. Now he looks forward to seeing “tremendous economic growth” in his role as City Manager of Bloomington, IL.

Brookens Library Renovation Complete

Brookens Library has opened up new learning opportunities for students following a renovation project. The updated space includes a classroom on the main level equipped for instruction and workshops, new computer and printer stations, reconfigured collaboration seating and a more open concept. Dexter BurnsDexter Burns: Giving the World

Making aspirations possible. That’s what scholarships do in the lives of students, and that’s why they are a Reaching Stellar Campaign priority. With Dexter Burns, scholarships did more: they changed the course of his life, leading him to professional achievement and a global perspective on life. Now, he is reaching back to help other students turn their possibilities into similar success.

Economic Impact ReportAlumni Added $702.7M to Illinois Economy

Research shows that UIS added an estimated $833.6 million to the Illinois economy in fiscal year 2017, of which alumni in the workforce accounted for $702.7 million. The University has a significant positive impact on the business community and generates a return on investment to students, taxpayers and society. Students receive a return of $6.30 in future earnings for every dollar invested in their education.

Bruce SommerNew Director of Economic Development & Innovation

Springfield-native Bruce Sommer has been named UIS’ new Director of Economic Development and Innovation. He will serve as the lead facilitator in efforts to spur local business growth in the Springfield area as a hub of the Discovery Partners Institute and the Illinois Innovation Network (DPI-IIN). He will link local business and community partners with the wide array of economic and educational resources and opportunities being created by DPI-IIN.
