A Salute to Veterans!
UIS is very proud to have 330 current faculty, staff and students who have served or are currently serving our country in the United States military. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!
Meet Alumnus Brace Clement
Brace Clement ’06 PAA of Chicago, IL, is a veteran of the Unites States Marine Corps. Following two tours of duty in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, he graduated from UIS with a degree in Political Studies. Following his military career, he worked at Starbucks Coffee Company in Seattle, WA, as a Senior Financial Analyst and Staffing Program Manager. Prior to Starbucks, he served as the Director of the Veterans Assistance Commission in Chicago. Clement went on to earn an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has embraced his most important role yet as a stay-at-home father to his one-year-old son Broyce.
Meet Alumnus A.J. Prebil
Richard A.J. Prebil ’14 LAS of Philadelphia, PA, is using his education to provide free legal services for veterans, current military members, and their spouses currently experiencing (or at-risk of experiencing) homelessness or living near the poverty line. He credits the UIS Legal Studies program for providing excellent preparation for law school; and the Capital Scholars Honors Program’s devotion to interdisciplinary learning helps him to see multiple dimensions and answers to complex human issues.
Reaching Stellar Campaign
Reaching Stellar: The Campaign for the University of Illinois Springfield seeks to raise money from friends and alumni to add to the excellence of UIS programs for students and community. This month read about UIS alumnus Ricardo Montoya Picazo, Young Philanthropist. He earned his BA in Politics in 2010 and an MA in Practical Politics in 2012, and he already has a record of philanthropy to UIS. Specifically, he gives to the UIS Scholarship Fund, the UIS Fund, the Student Union, and the Illinois Innocence Project.
Molding a College Life Yielding Success and Satisfaction Beyond Higher Education
Chancellor Susan Koch shares how, with the mentorship of faculty, UIS students are acquiring excellent communication, critical thinking and “art of persuasion” skills, which prepare them for success in a high-tech world. Read her recent column in the State Journal-Register.
