Meet Alumnus Robert Dixon

Robert DixonAlumnus Robert Dixon ’13 PAA, MA ’17 PAA is the director of legislative affairs for the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA). He’s worked in multiple governmental and legislative affairs roles, and says being a student leader at UIS gave him the skills to operate in a professional setting, lead others toward achieving goals and strategically complete tasks from beginning to end.

 

 

 

New UIS Building Funded in Capital Bill

Aerial view of UIS campusAmong new capital projects for UIS included in the Illinois General Assembly’s public works construction program is a $35 million, 50,000-square-foot library and student learning success center. The building will be situated between the Health and Sciences Building and the Student Union. Chancellor Susan Koch said the goal is to have “shovels in the ground” by 2020. First Prairie Stars Player Drafted for MLB

Andrew DeanSenior pitcher Andrew Dean recently made history by becoming the first Prairie Stars player selected in the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft. Dean was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 18th round, and is also the first Prairie Stars pitcher to earn All-American accolades.

 

 

New Sculptures Installed Outside Student Union

Sculpture Outside Student UnionThree sculptures by California-based artist Lisa Williamson were recently installed outside the Student Union. The artwork was made possible thanks to the John N. Chester Estate Fund, an endowed gift fund created with the intent of adding to the attractiveness of U of I campuses. The sculpture series, entitled “Obstruction, Reflection, Transition” combines bright colors with high reflectivity stainless steel. Watch a highlight video and read more.

 

 

UIS Career Outcomes Report

Outcomes Report snapshotMore than 90 percent of graduates from the 2017-18 academic year are working or continuing their education according to the new UIS Career Outcomes Report. The report explores what activities alumni are engaging in 12 months after graduation. Check it out.
