Meet Alumna Ashley Thompson

Ashley Thompson MPA ’14 is an Education Navigator at the Chicago Housing Authority. She says UIS prepared her by “providing supportive spaces through academics and internships.” Ashley was able to learn and reflect about her career interests in serving low-income communities, while also developing memorable and supportive friendships with classmates.

 

 

Meet Alumnus Jeromè Holston

Jerome HolstonJeromè Holston MPA ’13 is the statewide director for the LGBT Chamber of Commerce of Illinois. He says the MPA program exposed him to “a diverse group of students and community leaders who are champions of change.” Being able to make connections and build relationships with others has helped him overcome obstacles throughout his career.

 

 

Online Degree Programs Ranked Among Top 10%

Online bachelor’s degree programs have been ranked 33rd best in the country out of more than 348 institutions by U.S. News & World Report. This puts UIS among the top 10 percent of best online bachelor’s degree programs in the United States.

 

 

 

Exoneration of Grover Thompson by Illinois Innocence Project

Grover ThompsonGrover Thompson, who was wrongfully convicted and died in prison, became the first posthumous exoneration to occur in Illinois. The Illinois Innocence Project and other partners in justice fought with incredible devotion to finally bring closure to Grover’s family 23 years after his death. Read Grover’s story.

 

Embracing History with Lincoln Studies at UIS

Chancellor Susan J. KochChancellor Susan J. Koch shares stories of alumni who have been impacted by the study of Lincoln and the UIS history program in her recent State Journal-Register column. Alumnus Timothy Townsend says “the way the UIS program integrates traditional academic history with public history was just what I needed to further develop my career.”

 

Reaching Stellar Campaign

Erin Egolf

Reaching Stellar: The Campaign for the University of Illinois Springfield seeks to raise funds from friends and alumni to add to the excellence of UIS programs for students and our wider community. This month we feature Erin L. Egolf, recent graduate and loyal donor. She has been supporting the women’s soccer team at UIS since earning her degree in 2013. As head coach, she has led the Prairie Stars to their most successful seasons.
