William E. Winter, Outstanding Advocate
In 1990, the University of Illinois Foundation recognized the many contributions of William E. Winter with an award named in his honor: The William E. Winter Award for Outstanding Advocate Leadership. The award, now in its 21st year, recognizes individuals outside of the University structure who play active roles in securing private support for the University of Illinois.
William E. Winter, who recently passed away, became a director of the University of Illinois Foundation in 1984. His many acts of service for the Foundation included heading up the volunteer component of the University’s first major campaign in the early 80s.
Bill earned an A.B. in the general curriculum with a concentration in economics from the University of Illinois Urbana in 1942. He went to work for the St. Louis, Missouri-based 7Up® Company (now a subsidiary of Cadbury Beverages, Inc.) in April 1946. His career in the soft drink industry spanned 55 years.
