Dean Search – College of Business and Management
Dr. Somnath (Som) Bhattacharya has been appointed Dean of the College of Business & Management at the University of Illinois Springfield, pending University of Illinois Board of Trustees approval.
Dr. Bhattacharya holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from the University of South Florida, as well as an M.B.A. with a concentration in Management Information Systems from Northern Arizona University. He has served most recently as Dean of the Gus Machado School of Business at St. Thomas University. He was awarded promotion to Full Professor of Accounting in 2009, and he has been a tenured member of the faculty since 2002.
Dr. Bhattacharya’s areas of research expertise encompass ERP systems’ impact on adopting companies, the impact of XBRL on adopting companies, and measuring the ROI of corporate IT investments. He has over thirty journal publications in these areas in journals such as the Journal of Information Systems, International Journal of Accounting Information Systems, and Issues in Accounting Education.
Among Dr. Bhattacharya’s strengths noted by the search committee were his experience with developing entrepreneurial and interdisciplinary programs across colleges, and experience with AACSB accreditation and international outreach.
Bhattacharya will serve as dean designate beginning February 16, until the University of Illinois Board of Trustees can vote on his full appointment on March 14.
