UIS presents 27th annual international festival "Erasing Borders"

SPRINGFIELD - The University of Illinois at Springfield will host its 27th annual International Festival called "Erasing Borders" from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 24. The festival features cultural performances in the Studio Theatre, located on the lower level of the Public Affairs Center from 4 to 6 p.m., and a cultural bazaar with exhibits and food booths in the Food Emporium, also located in the PAC, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Countries, regions and clubs that will be represented include Mexico, France, Brazil, Panama, Chile, El Salvador, Bolivia, Puerto Rico, Africa, Poland, Germany, Japan, India, Korea, Thailand, Jamaica, Peru, China, Muslim Student Association, Model United Nations, Sankofa, The Sister City Association of Springfield, and the Office of International Affairs at UIS.
Entertainment will feature dances from India, Central and Latin America, Africa, and The Philippines, the UIS Drum Circle, music from the USA and France, and skits by the Muslim Student Association and Indian Student Organization. There will also be an all festival fashion show.
Food will include Polish dill pickle soup, cucumber salad, Polish beef rollups, papas a la huancaina from Peru, arroz biro biro, brigadeirao and quibes from Brazil, sweet potato pie, African vegetarian stew, futari, African tomato avocado buttermilk soup, benne cakes, peanut soup with okra croutons, Japanese green beans in a sesame dressing, nikuja -- Japanese beef, potatoes and onions, horseshoes, chicken biryani, chicken tikka masala, paneer butter masala, mixed vegetable pulau, mixed vegetable raita, gulab jamun, chicken frarej, and baked kibbee.
Tickets, which include exhibits, food and performances, are $10 for the general public, $5 for students and children (age 6 and under are free). UIS students with an ID may attend free of charge.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at the UIS Bursar's Office, located on the ground level of the Public Affairs Center, phone 206-6738. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
