SPRINGFIELD -- "Flatlanders," an invitational landscape exhibit hosted by the University of Illinois at Springfield Visual Arts Gallery, will open Tuesday, September 5. An opening reception, free and open to the public, is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 12, in the gallery. The show will run through October 10.
The five artists represented in this exhibit B James D. Butler, Michael Dubina, Kenneth Holder, Harold Gregor, and Fred Jones B have all lived in the Midwest for several years and their works reflect a common fascination with the land, its wide vistas, and vast skies. From Jones= drawings of storms sweeping across the land to Dubina=s jewel-like watercolors, the artists have captured a familiar country in many moods.
Bob Dixon, gallery director and associate professor of visual arts at UIS, noted, AThe beauty and strength in the rendering of these scenes echoes the beauty and strength of the land itself. All flatlanders will find this irresistible work about well-loved territory.@
The Visual Arts Gallery is located in room 201 of the Health and Sciences Building on the UIS campus. Gallery hours are noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. For more information about this exhibit or about the gallery, call 206-6506.
