scholarships FOR ADVANCING the status of WOMEN

Joanna Lynne Harner Scholarship

Established by members and supporters of the Women and Gender Studies Program, this scholarship typically carries an award of around $500 or more.

Selected in the spring for the next year, one or two awards are made to a graduate or undergraduate student, full or part-time, who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in the field of Women and Gender Studies or who has made a notable contribution to advancing the status of women on campus or in the community.

Nomination: By faculty, or by student with at least one letter of support from a faculty member. Selection by a three-person committee established by the Women and Gender Studies Committee.

How:

  • Get forms from the Office of Financial Aid , SAB-60
  • Submit an essay describing your contributions to Women’s Studies or women on campus or the community. The essay should be typed, double-spaced, and 1-3 pages in length.
  • Submit copies to both Financial Aid and the Women’s Studies Program Office, BRK 425. Please check with each office for information about current application deadlines.


Anna May Smith Scholarship

Established to honor Professor Anna May Smith, this scholarship varies by fund income.

Selected in the spring for the next fall, the award is for a female student who has demonstrated the ability to integrate her experience and maturity in the performance of her academic work while exhibiting her potential for leadership and for making contributions to the advancement of women.

Nomination: By a student, with two letters of support from faculty, or by a faculty member. The recipient is selected by the UIS Scholarship Selection Committee.
