Department of Women and Gender Studies University of Illinois Springfield

Admission Requirements

Undergraduate Entrance Requirements

The WGS program has no course or GPA requirements for undergraduate admission (beyond those for admission to the university) because lower-division grades, especially grades in classes taken several years ago, are often not good predictors of how well a student will do.

We encourage any student who wishes to choose Women & Gender Studies as a minor.

Graduate Entrance Requirements

Students must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and meet campus requirements for admission to graduate study.

In addition, candidates for the WGS graduate certificate must write a goal statement and have an interview with a Women and Gender Studies faculty member.  Students may be conditionally admitted to the certificate program until they pass WGS 501.  WGS will assign an adviser to help develop a course of study that meets the student’s goals. Candidates for the certificate must complete course requirements with a grade of B or better.
