About

The Wepner Program on the Lincoln Legacy is a project of the Wepner Distinguished Professor of Political Science, whose mission is to conduct public affairs activities connecting the legacy of the 16th president to contemporary political experience and social science scholarship.

The current Wepner Professor, Dr. Matthew Holden, Jr., has convened two symposia in Springfield, Illinois, on the themes of presidential leadership and the lessons of the Civil War, with a third planned for October 2012 centered around Lincoln’s role in emancipation. Our goal is to expand the scope of our activities to build on these symposia with a greater online presence, more events, and publication opportunities – all with the aim of promoting the mission of bringing greater scholarly attention to the legacy of Abraham Lincoln and spreading that knowledge to the public.
