Staff Recommendations

Below are web-related recommendations and ideas from the OWS staff.

  • Firefox - Our preferred web browser. Ask Tech Support to install it on your office computer or download it yourself at home.

  • Firefox Add-Ons - Add fun and function to your Firefox browser with Add-Ons.

  • IE Tab - use this add-on for eDocs functionality in Firefox
By default, the Firefox web browser does not use the WebDAV protocol that is required to use the Web Folder feature in eDocs. The IE Tab add-on is the simplest way to add this functionality.

Here are some of our staff favorites:

  • Sherry Hutson: XMARKS (formerly Foxmarks). Add XMARKS to all your browsers, on different computers. It works silently in the background to keep your bookmarks synchronized. XMARKS also keeps your data backed up and safe from computer failures. Create a secure login and password. Enjoy synchronized bookmarks at work and home.

  • Ralph Shank: Cooliris. (formerly PicLens) Cooliris is a Full-Screen, 3D add-on that transforms your browser into a fast way to search, discover, view, and share online photos and videos. The "3D Wall" lets you zoom your way around thousands of items on a single screen. It's the fastest way to search and enjoy Google Images, YouTube, Flickr, Hulu, and hundreds of other sites. See http://www.cooliris.com/product for a list of all features and supported sites.

  • Christy Broccardo-Davis: Helpful websites that will help you select color combinations for your web site or electronic project are Color Scheme Designer and Kuler by Adobe which allows you to generate and share color schemes, and create color themes from an image - very cool!
