Trick or Treat for Canned Goods 2010

2010 Trick or Treat for Canned GoodsOur 2010 Trick or Treat for Canned Goods was by far our most successful yet. UIS students raised a total of 8354 lbs of food in a single night. Thank you to every team captain and every team member who took time to help the people of Springfield.

And a big thank you to all the generous people of Springfield who continue to give during this event.

This year we are hoping to to collect 9,000 lbs of food!

If you want to help us reach our goal, get a group of people together to form a team and register to participate! You can register for the event by clicking here.

There are awards for the three teams that collect the most lbs of food. The prizes are gift cards to the restaurant of the team’s choice. First prize is $150 gift card. Second prize is $100 gift card. Third prize is $75 gift card.

What is the Holiday Stars Project?

Holiday Stars Project logoIn 2008, a campus-wide committee met to create a tradition, one that would bring focus to what the University of Illinois Springfield could do to strengthen our community during the holiday season. The committee eventually developed the Holiday Stars Project, a month-long food drive for the Central Illinois Foodbank.

Look for Holiday Stars collection bins all around campus, every year during the month of November. See below for the list of preferred donations.

Preferred donations:

  • Cereal
  • Rice
  • Pasta and Canned Pasta Sauce
  • Soups, Stews, and Chili
  • Macaroni and Cheese
  • Canned Fruits and Vegetables
  • Diapers

Please do not donate:

  • Food in glass containers
  • Unlabeled products
  • Homemade items
  • Open or used items

Be sure to check back here throughout November to see updates on the collection!
