Jeff Robinson’s paintings explore the meaningful connections that can be forged between disparate forms. Working from discarded detritus found in his local environment, Robinson looks to exalt these objects by finding perceptual significance in them. Each work occupies a realm between the native two-dimensional and three-dimensional worlds of his found materials. The shared formal language of line, shape, color, and texture acts as the means to unite these two worlds and construct verses of engaged perceptual awareness that transcend routine perceptions of everyday experience. These visual verses function as analogs to a personal questioning of phenomenal life-experiences and the meaning that can be attained from them.
Jeff Robinson was born, raised, and currently resides in central Illinois. Robinson studied painting and received his M.F.A. from Illinois State University in 2011, and his B.A. in Visual Arts from The University of Illinois at Springfield in 2007. He maintains and active studio practice and has exhibited locally, regionally, and nationally. Robinson is currently an Instructor of Art and serves as Director for the Visual Arts Gallery at The University of Illinois at Springfield.
