Groundbreaking Ceremony: University of Illinois at Springfield students, faculty, staff, local legislators, the mayor of Springfield, and other dignitaries gathered together on Thursday, July 27, 2006, to break ground for the university's new $16.2 million recreation and athletic center.
Construction on the center should be complete
by the summer of 2007. The center is funded primarily by fees paid
by UIS students. In addition, UIS received a generous gift of $1 million
from the Hoogland Family Foundation of Charles and Kathleen Hoogland.
