by Jane MartinThe fall production, Anton in Show Business, by Jane Martin, will be directed by newly-hired Assistant Professor of Theatre, Missy Thibodeaux-Thompson. Described as a "savvy, savage backstage comedy," the play was a hit at the 24th Humana Festival of New American Plays in 2000, and the winner of the 2001 American Theatre Critics/Steinberg New Play Award. Anton... is a fast-paced and remorseless look into the world of theatre. A self-centered television actress, a jaded New Yorker, and an enthusiastic ingénue are brought together for an ill-fated production of Anton Chekhov's The Three Sisters in San Antonio, Texas. The play proceeds to skewer incompetent producers, idiot directors, surgically beautified actors, crass sponsors, self-important critics, and even the sacred topic of multiculturalism, and satirizes, celebrates, and challenges the importance of theatre as an art form today. Production dates are: Nov. 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 at 8pm, and Nov. 5 at 2pm.
Our sincere thanks to all who auditioned and/or indicated interest in backstage work.
