March 16, 2016: The University of Illinois Board of Trustees approved the contract that will kick off construction of the UIS Student Union. Read more about this historic approval.

October 15, 2015: Plans for UIS Student Union going forward with private funds: Solicitation for bids for the Student Union project were posted in early October, according to Chuck Coderko, director of construction aT UIS. “This is a very important project for the university,” said Chancellor Susan J. April 1, 2014: Illinois Board of Higher Education Approves the Student Union Building Construction at UIS.

January 23, 2014: Board of Trustees formally approved the student union project.

December 10, 2013: Student Union Video “Walk-Through” of what new Student Union may look like

November 7, 2013: Character mapping: Student Union committee looks at interior and exterior colors, textures, and materials for the new student union.

August, 2013: Billboard with architects’ renderings of proposed student union appear on campus

May 2013: Professional Service Consultant chosen (Dewberry Architects from Peoria, Illinois, working with Workshop Architects from Milwaukee, Wisconsin)

March, 2013: Four architectural firms came to UIS to interview for the Student Union project (out of 29 who submitted proposals)

April, 2013: Focus groups with prospective architects begin

April 19, 2012: Students vote on referendum to raise fees to build student union; referendum passes

April 9, 2012: First open forum for the Student Union

March, 2012: Student Union Survey: 800 responses collected

February 15, 2012: Student Union Facebook launches
