The Women's Issues Caucus is looking for the 2006 Vagina Warriors

The Women's Issues Caucus is looking for the 2006 Vagina Warriors. Think of three (3) people that represent a Vagina Warrior in your mind. Then, please send an email with the subject line Vagina Warrior vote to Naho Kawauchi at nkawa2@uis.edu no later than Feb 1st. Feel free to include minimal information as to why you think each person should be honored as a Vagina Warrior as well as your contact information in case we need to contact you. We will then compile the votes and make a decision. These two individuals will then be honored on February 18th at our pre show reception in the PAC restaurant. (This reception is free and open to the public) Hope to see you all there. Thank you in advance for helping us make this important decision.

The Vagina Monologues

The Women’s Issues Caucus at the University of Illinois at Springfield will present a production of Eve Ensler’s play The Vagina Monologues at 8 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2006, in the Studio Theatre, located on the lower level of the Public Affairs Center on the UIS campus.

The production is part of a worldwide campaign, V-Day 2006, which is designed to bring awareness and raise financial support to end the violence against women and girls. Proceeds from the evening will benefit groups working to bring an end to violence including locally, Sojourn Shelter and Services, the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault and the Women’s Issues Caucus, and internationally for the V-Day 2006 spotlight campaign centered on bringing justice to “Comfort Women”.

A pre-show hors d'oeuvres reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Public Affairs Center restaurant. Beneficiaries will be honored and representatives from Sojourn Shelter and Services and the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault will speak about the efforts being made here in the Springfield area to bring an end to violence against women and girls.

Tickets are currently on sale through the Sangamon Auditorium Ticket Office at UIS. The cost is $25 for the general public; prices for UIS student tickets are $12.50 and $18 for all other students.
