Whatever Happened to Feminism?

The Women’s Studies Program will host a lecture and discussion by Sherry Wolf entitled, “Whatever Happened to Feminism?” on October 25th, from 6-7:30, in the University Hall Building, Room 2008. The event is free and open to the public. Sponsors include the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Public Affairs and Administration, the Capital Scholars Honors Program, the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom-Mary Wood Branch, the Women's Issues Caucus, the Women's Center, and USAS. Sherry Wolf is a member of the editorial board for the International Socialist Review and has been active in social, economic and global justice struggles for more than 20 years.

Halloween Party!


Advocates for Academics and the Center for Teaching and Learning will be holding a Halloween party on Oct. 31st from 1pm to 4pm in Brookens 460 (The CTL).

Show your creative side by competing in our pumpkin painting contest (pumpkins and paint provided). Meet the wizard and have your fortune told! Free treats for everyone who stops by.

Costumes are not required but are more than welcome.

The Alchemist Review

UIS's annual literary journal, The Alchemist Review, is now accepting submissions of fiction, poetry, prose, artwork and photography. Fiction must be less than 3500 words. Please send submissions to the English Department GA, Ed Myers, at eng-ga@uis.edu.

Women's Issues Caucus (WIC)

Domestic Violence Awareness Week - beginning Oct 17th and concluding Oct 19th. All events will be aimed at raising awareness on this very important issue during Domestic Violence Awareness month as well as raising funds for the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence in response to Hurricane Katrina.

Oct 17th, 2005 ---- 11am -----PAC G
Vicki Crompton, co-author of "Saving Beauty from the Beast" will lead our luncheon seminar discussing her experience with loosing her 15 year old daughter to an abusive boyfriend. This is aimed at raising awareness about another side of domestic violence, specifically teen dating violence. Bread Stretchers will be providing lunch. While this event is free and open to the public, donations to the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence are encouraged.

Women's Issues Caucus presents GIRLS NITE OUT brought to you by the Body Shop, Missy Block, private consultant. Our consultant has agreed to donate 10% of her profits from sales to the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence. This event is free and open to the public, but rsvp emails are encouraged to nevan01s@uis.edu. Come join us for a spa night for your feet and maybe you will win one of our wonderful door prizes.

Prior to this event we will have a Pay Equity Bake Sale with profits being donated to LCADV. Bake sale items will be available at 6:30 outside the Auditorium
