All students who are currently enrolled at University of Illinois Springfield are eligible to use the UIS Cares Food Pantry.

  • What types of items are available at the UIS Cares Food Pantry?

The UIS Cares Food Pantry currently accepts donations of non-perishable food and personal care items only. A list of commonly needed items is available at  items-to-donate-to-uis-cares.

  • How many items may be taken?

The number of items and variety of options may change based on availability.

  • How much does it cost to use the UIS Cares Food Pantry?

The UIS Cares Food Pantry is a FREE service.

  • How frequently can the UIS Cares Food Pantry be used?

Individuals may visit the UIS Cares Food Pantry on scheduled hours.

  • When is the UIS Cares Food Pantry open?
    • Every Friday while classes are in session.
    • Time: 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
    • Location: Student Affairs Building 60
  • This service is for registered UIS Students. I-Card is required.

  • Who can donate items to the UIS Cares Food Pantry?

All individuals and organizations, both inside and outside the University of Illinois Springfield community, may donate items to the UIS Cares Food Pantry.

  • What types of items can be donated?

The UIS Cares Food Pantry currently accepts donations of non-perishable, unexpired food items and personal care items only.

  • Where can donated items be dropped off?

The UIS Cares Food Pantry drop off locations for donations:

  • Brookens Library
  • Public Affairs Building, Most Floor
  • University Hall Building, Lower Level
  • Student Volunteer Services and Civic Engagement Office, SAB 60
  • Can someone help deliver a donation to the UIS Cares Food Pantry?

Donating Money – FAQ

  • Can I donate money to the UIS Cares Food Pantry?

Yes! Your financial contributions enable the UIS Cares Food Pantry to purchase food at a reduced cost, ensuring a steady inventory of needed items.

  • Can I donate cash or by check?

The UIS Cares Food Pantry accepts donations of cash or personal checks made out to University of Illinois Springfield UIS Cares Food Pantry. You may bring your donation to the Office of Development, located at PAC 595, in the Public Affairs Building, between 8:30am and 5pm. You may also mail your check to:

Volunteering – FAQ

  • Who can volunteer at the UIS Cares Food Pantry?

All University of Illinois Springfield students are eligible and encouraged to volunteer, however, there is a limited number of volunteer spots available. Please email: UISCares@uis.edu to be considered as a volunteer.

  • What volunteer opportunities are available at the UIS Cares Food Pantry?

The UIS Cares Food Pantry is run solely by student volunteers. Volunteers are needed to assist students as they shop for necessary food and personal care items, receive and process incoming donations, stock shelves, manage stock inventory, and occasionally pickup donations from sites on or away from the University of Illinois Springfield campus.

  • How do I become a Volunteer?

Becoming a Volunteer is easy! Simply email: UISCares@uis.edu and someone will get back with you within 24 hours.. You will receive an email about how to complete training once you complete the online form. Contact the UIS Student Volunteer Service and Civic Engagement Office at 217-206-7716 or email: UISCares@uis.edu if you have questions.

  • What is the time commitment for volunteering?

Volunteer shifts in the UIS Cares Food Pantry are generally about 1.5 hours each and you can choose which shifts work best for your schedule. We ask that volunteers commit to 5 hours per month, but we can accommodate those who need to fulfill one-time service-hour requirements as well. The UIS Cares Food Pantry is conveniently located on-campus which makes it easy to volunteer.

  • Are UIS Cares Food Pantry student leadership opportunities available?

We have several Student Leadership teams supporting the UIS Cares Food Pantry. If you are interested in helping with Internal Marketing, External Marketing, Volunteer Coordination, or being a Pantry Student Ambassador, please contact the Contact the UIS Student Volunteer Service and Civic Engagement Office at 217-206-7716 or email: UISCares@uis.edu. Students involved in UIS Cares Food Pantry leadership are expected to volunteer in the UIS Cares Food Pantry, alongside their leadership duties.
