The SOA major is a Liberal Arts major designed to provide a general education appropriate to a wide range of careers, not a professional Bachelor’s degree program that leads to a specific occupation.
UIS graduates with SOA majors are employed in a wide range of careers in business, government, teaching, public service organizations, and research. Most careers in the disciplines of sociology or anthropology require advanced degrees at the M.A. and frequently at the Ph.D. levels.
Past SOA majors have gone on to graduate schools all around the nation and have received M.A.s or Ph.D.s in sociology, anthropology, and in a variety of other fields.
