The annual U of I on the capitol lobby day will be on Wednesday, April 10th. All U-of-I schools will be present along with their student governments and other active students on campus. This is an event to advocate as students on behalf of the University of Illinois, in which all students will be affected by the outcomes of the Illinois state legislature. ALL STUDENTS are invited and HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to attend and participate;no previous political advocacy work or background in lobbying is necessary.
The day will range from11:30 am – 5 pm. Transportation will be provided to those that don’t have cars and need rides. For those that need rides, meet at the PAC Teardrop at 10:45 am. After lunch and the group photo at the Capitol, the vans will make a trip back to UIS campus for those who can’t stay the full time. Students that have morning classes and can’t attend the am session can be picked up by the returning van at 1:45 pm at the PAC Teardrop. Upon arrival, materials will be provided by the University of Illinois AlumniAssociationto all students who have registered online.
Now for the reward! The student organization that brings the largest number of attendees will receive a$250 GIFT-CARD TO BUFFALO WILD WINGS. Students must check in with me once we’re in the Capitol Complex and I will take a photo of the organization’s attendees. In addition, students need to indicate which group they’re representing during the online registration.
Prior to University of Illinois Day, there will be an INFORMATIONAL SESSION which will cover travel logistics, what to wear, how to effectively “lobby,” proper legislative “manners”, and the issues at stake for the future of the University of Illinois. This will be on Tuesday, March 26th at 9:30 pm in Capitol Perks; FREE PIZZA PROVIDED!
