Attention UIS students! Hello, my name Ricky Baptist and I am a junior CAP Honors student majoring in communication. I am running for the Senator from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences position, and if elected, next year will be my first year serving in SGA. I am very involved in many different parts of campus, unfortunately I believe that a lack of student involvement is one of the bigger reasons our campus needs improvement. Students will be my number one priority and I will do everything I can to encourage and promote student participation, and I will do my very best to relay any and all students concerns or questions to my SGA constitutes.
I want UIS students to be aware of what SGA is doing, be involved in the process, and to have a say. It is important to me that students have a voice and I hope to be an example of how they can speak up and get things done for the benefit of our campus. Even though next year will be my last as an undergraduate, I am not running to promote myself or try and “leave a legacy.” I simply see issues that need to be addressed and with my three years of experience on this campus, I feel I know what it is going to take to get things done. You have to be proactive and exemplify leadership at all times to prove to the campus that you stand for something. If you do me the honor of electing me to this position, I promise to represent UIS, its Student Government Association, as well as its many students professionally and respectfully.
