D. Craig McFarland
Junior
Student Rep. Board of Trustees
Hello, my name is Craig McFarland and I am seeking the position of Student Representative to the Board of Trustees. I am currently serving as your Transfer Senator. I feel that I could bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Board. I transferred to UIS from Black Hawk College, where I served for one year as Student Government President. I was required to report to the Board of Trustees at BHC and ensure a working relationship to allow the students’ voice to be heard.
If elected, I would work hard to advocate for all the students of UIS. Our campus is expanding, and it will be important to build upon the foundations that have been laid out for us. I will work to address the recent acts of violence on campus by community building between the campus police and safety program initiatives.
This semester we were shocked to find out that 14% of fall semester students had left UIS by spring. We must work to secure funding and better equip our mentoring and tutoring services to ensure a healthy learning environment for all the students of UIS.
This past year I was one of two SGA members to vote against a raise in student fees. I understand that all campuses are feeling the budget crunch from the State, but we can not continue to place the burden solely on the backs of the students. While I understand fees sometimes need to be raised; they need to also serve a purpose.
If you have any additional questions please e-mail me at dmcfa4@uis.edu. Also, I can usually be found hanging around Trillium Court. Stop by and ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have. I would appreciate your vote.
