The Rubicon
There is a famous phrase that states, “You just crossed the Rubicon.” Crossing the Rubicon is a metaphor for deliberately proceeding past a point of no return. Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon to meet his friend Pompeii in battle. This event plunged the Roman Empire into a civil war. Caesar did this knowing it would not be easy; he did it knowing it was necessary.
When I chose to attend graduate school I did so knowing my journey would be not only a challenging experience but also a valuable one. Although, I graduated with my Bachelor’s of Science from Illinois State University I was not sure of what career I wanted to pursue. I lived in the Bloomington area in hopes of finding a career that suited my interests, but after a few months, I moved back to my hometown, Kewanee, IL. While I was at home I was a substitute teacher still trying to figure out my place in the world yet to no avail. After doing some soul searching, I decided to go back to school to better define myself as a professional. After looking at many different colleges I decided the University of Illinois at Springfield (UIS) was the best option for me. Thus far I have received some invaluable knowledge and experiences despite the short amount of time I have spent here.
If elected to office I will serve the student body to the best of my ability. I believe I can bring a new and fresh outlook on the UIS Student Body. As a Graduate Student I will have a different perspective on academics as well as social life. I can help get more people involved and will do so if elected.
