The University of Illinois at Springfield Student Government Association recently approved the addition of an International Senator to its SGA membership in resolution 9 of AY 12-13.
The addition of an International Senator makes changes to the SGA constitution, which requires 2/3rds approval in a student vote. A student vote for this issue will take place during the SGA Spring Elections on April 17th and April 18th. If approved, the International Senator position would be added to the current SGA membership as an additional senator position. The International Student Senator must be a student who holds international student status at the time of seeking office and throughout the time of service on SGA. The position, if approved, will be filled during the Fall 2013 SGA election and will be seated at the conclusion of the election.
Additionally, the following would be added to the SGA Constitution under Article V, Section 3:
S. (1) International Student Senator, who must be a student who holds international student status at the time of seeking office and throughout the time of service on SGA.
Lastly, voting for the position will take place as follows:
A “Yes” vote indicates that you support the Referendum Proposal to add an International Senator position to the SGA.
A “No” vote indicates that you do not support the Referendum Proposal, and do not wish to add an International Senator position to the SGA.
Thank you for your interest in this issue.
