Presented in cooperation with the Springfield Ballet Company. __________________________________________________________
About the story: The story of Giselle is considered one of the classics of contemporary ballet. A story of love that finds tragedy when Giselle, a peasant from a small village, discovers that her new love is actually Count Alberecht in disguise; who is engaged to another. Giselle’s discovery is so shocking that she takes her own life. The second act opens in the forest where Giselle has been laid to rest and tells of her encounters with a group of female ghosts out looking to revenge their own immortal heart aches. Into this scene comes the repentant Count begging Giselle’s forgiveness. Through her forgiveness, and the protection of her love, Giselle successfully warns off the other female spirits who seek to destroy him. It becomes apparent with the sunrise that she has saved him but all he can do is lay her body back to rest.
