Kronos Quartet project awarded $10K grant from the NEA

Sangamon Auditorium at the University of Illinois at Springfield is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in support of the Kronos Quartet – Sun Rings performance, and corresponding activities, taking place on Tuesday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Supportive grants like these from various national and state arts agencies, like the National Endowment for the Arts and the Illinois Arts Council, offer crucial financial support to performing arts centers and facilities like Sangamon Auditorium; whose mission it is to present spectacular and engaging works by groups like the Kronos Quartet. WSEC-TV program to feature recent visit to UIS by the Tibetan Monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery (July 30, 2007)
SPRINGFIELD -- Making Conversation, a locally produced, Emmy-nominated program that airs on WSEC-TV (Springfield's PBS station), will feature footage captured last spring during a memorable residency exhibit at the University of Illinois at Springfield by the Tibetan Monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery. SPRINGFIELD - "Location, location, location” isn’t just a real-estate rule. It was a prevailing thought for Sangamon Auditorium director Robert A. Vaughn in planning the 2007-08 performing arts season.
Emphasizing the University of Illinois at Springfield’s resources - as well as those of the city it serves - also was the reason for a name change. What was the Performing Arts Series now is known as Visiting Artists at UIS. (read more)

UIS announces 2007-2008 Performing Arts Season (June 6, 2007)
SPRINGFIELD -- The University of Illinois at Springfield will announce the 2007-2008 Performing Arts Season at Sangamon Auditorium on Thursday, June 7, 2007.

UIS announces 2007-2008 Class Acts Series at Sangamon Auditorium

SPRINGFIELD -- The goal of Class Acts, the performing arts series for youth at Sangamon Auditorium, is to present a diverse performing arts program for youth in support of educational and cultural goals mandated by the State of Illinois for grades K through 12. Now in its 22nd season, Class Acts strives to assist youth in understanding the nature of the performing arts by providing students with the experience of live performance and by furnishing teaching packets to assist teachers. It endeavors to introduce students to new ideas that will promote their personal and social well being as well as their educational growth through familiarizing them with new forms of communication and acquainting them with the existence of other cultures and the contribution they have made on the world.
